Camping!

Camping.
Oh how I love thee.
The smell of campfire, the melty, oozy deliciousness of smores, the coziness of sleeping next to a warm little baby, the taste of bacon made on the bbq.
Ahhhhh, I love me some camping.
Apparently, so does my little lady.

Sun and fun-filled days make one little lady very sleepy:

And one happy lady when she wakes:

Oh, want to have the best smores of your life?

Make them with these cookies.

You don’t have to worry about the chocolate shifting around, you don’t have to eat graham wafers, which let’s be honest are the worst part of the smore, plus you get double chocolate! Win, win, win.

Finally Friday

Oh mannn am I ever glad to see Friday. This week has sucked. I had an ultrasound on Tuesday to confirm my latest miscarriage (fun times) and then I was crazy sick for the past two days and am still feeling like c.r.a.p.

One positive thing that happened this week was celebrating my Daddio's 55th birthday. We went to a local italian restaurant (Porto A Casa for any of you Barrhavenites) and indulged in some seriously tasty food.

Believe it or not this was the best picture I took of Quinn that night. It is becoming increasingly difficult to photograph this kid because she is CONSTANTLY moving around and generally being uncooperative.

But I still love her because just look at that face.

This weekend will be spent relaxing, recovering and keeping kiddo entertained. Oh and reading this book. I just ordered it and am looking forward to getting my body back on track.
I can't wait.

Our weekend :)

Oh weekends. I love you.
This past weekend blew by, but I did manage to get a few things accomplished.

Like spend time with this little cutie on Friday
Never too young to appreciate wine
(it's water but don't tell Lyla)

I also rocked this puzzle
It was no match for me.
Done in 4 hours, no big deal.

I also managed to take the dogs on a decent walk in the woods on Saturday with my aunt, Heather and my mom. Everyone had fun, except maybe Quinn who looked like she was ready to go 'Carrie' on us.

My mom and I went back to forest on Sunday to collect greenery and branches for some DIY Christmas urns. More on that tomorrow :)

In other exciting news, Simon told me what he plans on giving me for Christmas.

A homemade headboard!

Yes folks, apparently he reads my blog... I found some very handy headboard tutorials online, so I am very excited to start picking the fabric and shape of our new bedroom beauty!
Stay tuned for more details.

Well, that's wrap.
Happy Monday!

Friday!!!

It's Friday!
That can only mean one thing...

Shenanigans!

We have a busy weekend ahead full of friends, family and Christmas preparations. I'm trying to make presents this year so I'll be busy with those projects as well as DECORATING!
I LOVE CHRISTMAS.
A lot.

Oh just a heads up, don't go shopping this weekend unless you like crazy lineups and crazy people. I made the mistake of going to Old Navy today. The lineup for the checkout was literally looped around the store. I've NEVER seen anything like it. Insanity. I should have known better than go to stores on 'Black Friday'. As soon as I saw the line I put my things down and left. I'll buy them online instead.
I LOVE ONLINE SHOPPING.
A lot.

Happy Weekend!

Playing catch-up

So my goal of posting every weekday, is proving to be not always achievable...
I'll work on it.

Anyways, here's what we've been up to.

This past weekend I was away in Prince Edward County, ON for my dear friend Kristen's bachelorette. Us girls had an AMAZING time. We headed up Friday night and came home Sunday afternoon. Short yet very, very sweet.

The house we rented was gorgeous. I wish I had taken my own pictures of it, but if you head over to the Britannia House website, there are lots of pictures. If you happen to be looking for a vacation rental in the Picton area, check it out.
No seriously, do it.

On Saturday we went on a fantastic tour of four local wineries and got maybe just a little bit tipsy...

I ended up coming home with these wines which I highly recommend:

From left to right:
Karlo Estates - Quintus 2010, Sandbanks - Baco Noir 2011, Harwood Estates Vineyards - Friends Rose

As you can see, Simon and I have already polished off the Sandbanks Baco Noir.
DELISH.

When I got home Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised to see this in my garage:

I can see you scratching your heads wondering what on earth I am trying to show you.
That my friends, is our new car door bumper exquisitely handcrafted of electrical conduits and water pipe insulation by my very handy hubby.

He claims to have come up with this idea all on his own and spent the better part of Sunday hunting down all the supplies and then putting it together.
I think he was sick of me flinging the car doors open into the garage walls.
Genius.

Quinn was also busy this weekend brushing up on her new skill:

I call it the 'Double Finger Pick'.

In other news, I am very sad to report that my little nugget is being tortured by the dreaded one-year molars. Darn them. She was feverish all weekend and hasn't been herself in a few days. C'mon molars, pop through already! While I hate seeing her in pain, I do enjoy the cuddles that come with a sick baby...

Well that about does it for me.
Tune in tomorrow for my roundup of things I would buy if I had a million dollars.
I'm not kidding.

xo, Vicky

P.S.
Quinn wanted to post too.
Seriously she typed this and it looks like she wanted to give you all a kiss.

These boots were made for walkin'

Sorry for being absent yesterday, I just didn't feel like blogging.
But I do today!

I'm at home with the nugget today and we've had a lovely time so far. I'll be away this weekend for a bachelorette party (um YAY!) so I'm glad I got to spend some quality one-on-one time with Quinn.
Speaking of Quinn, she's getting braver and braver by the day. She walks several steps in a row now and today she even crossed the room. It may seem like a trivial thing to some, but to me this is one of the most significant things to have happened in quite a while.
I am so darn proud of her!

In addition to walking, Quinn has also taken an interest in emptying all my kitchen cupboards and drawers.
I'm not kidding, my kitchen looks like this on the regular. But she likes it so who cares (I repeat this in my head when I trip on a sippy cup).

I'll end my post with this sweet little photo.
I can't bring myself to clean this mirror.
Or clean my bedroom window that has her footprints from months ago.
What can I say, the kid has stolen my heart and a fair chunk of my sanity.

Happy Weekend!!!

Our weekend :)

And just like that, another weekend has flown by.

Friday night was quiet.
Simon went to a friend's place and I stayed home with Quinn.

Saturday night we had our old neighbours over for dinner so the day was spent cleaning and preparing. Simon hung the curtains we bought for our family room.
We love how they make the room look more home-y and colourful.

That night we played Settlers of Catan.
Anyone who is familiar with this game knows it takes a little while to get into it, but once the game is set up and you become familiar with all the rules (there is literally a book of rules) its a fun game.

I lost.

Sunday was both a relaxing and productive day.
It started the best way possible with cuddles from Quinn.

Once we got our butts out of bed, I recovered our kitchen chairs with the same fabric as the curtains. Stay tuned for details on how I did it!

Later that night, we headed over to my parent's place for dinner and what a dinner it was!
Tortiere (meat pie) with mashed potatoes and gravy.
YUM.

Unfortunately we had a cranky baby on our hands.
The time change did not agree with little Q.
She was so tired she didn't even finish her much loved bottle of milk.

Well that was our weekend.
Short but sweet.

Happy Monday!

Our weekend :)

Whew, that was a busy but amazing weekend!
Friday night, we packed Quinn up and sent her over to G-Ma and Grumpa's house while Simon and I headed over to my friend Heather's place to celebrate her birthday.
This was no ordinary party though.
It was a plaid party!
SO FUN :)
Photo cred - Ms. A. Alter
Saturday morning was an extra-special occassion.
Simon and I slept in until 10 am!
Lets all take a moment to be thankful for grandparents...
Saturday afternoon, we picked up our little nugget and headed to the place everyone else in Ottawa apparently goes to on Saturdays.
Ikea.

"Hey, look. There's an adorable child for sale at Ikea."
SOLD.
Quinn loves shopping at Ikea.
It makes her want to dance.
Saturday night, we all headed to Kanata for our friends, Nasso and Melissa's Halloween party. Quinn actually stayed asleep in her playpen the whole night (something that doesn't always happen) and the rest of us snacked on delicious goodies and played Werewolves (yesss!)
A socket and a plug. How romantic.
Sunday morning, we went out for breakfast with the rest of the party-goers from the night before. Since Quinn went right to bed when we arrived at the party, no one saw her costume so obviously we made sure she wore it to breakfast :)
Before we left for breakfast, Simon made sure that Quinn was good and hyper...
I couldn't love these two more
Sunday night, something HUGE happened.
Dun, dun, DUN...
Well, actually two HUGE things happened.
Dun, dun, DUN...
First, Quinn decided to stand on her own!
Then after some practice standing,
Quinn took her first steps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It happened so fast I didn't get it on video but I don't think i'll ever forget it.
Well, that about does it for me.
I hope you all had wonderful weekends too.

Our weekend :)

I love weekends.
I love sleeping in. I love making big elaborate breakfasts. I love wearing my pyjamas until noon (or all day). I love spending time with family and friends.
This past weekend included all of those things.

Unfortunately the weekend also included fever and puke...
On Thursday Quinn woke up in the middle of the night feeling unusually warm. I gave her a half dose of Tylenol and put her back to bed. Friday she was off and didn't eat much at daycare. When I picked her up after work she didn't seem like her happy self and by bedtime she was worse. About an hour after we put her to bed she woke up very feverish and had a scary glazed over look about her. She ended up throwing up all over me as I rocked her. It scared the pants off me. This was the first time she'd ever been really sick.

We quickly consulted The Baby Book which told us that fevers are a normal part of childhood and that what she had was most likely due to teething. The book also told us to give her Tylenol and strip her down to try and get the fever down. So we did and thank goodness, it worked.
By the morning she was back to her usual happy self. :)
The moral of the story = teething sucks.

We started off Saturday morning with a breakfast of champions.
I made a potato, onion, pepper and cheese scramble and I must say, it was delicious.

Shortly after breakfast, Simon's dad came over with a present:
A lovely bird feeder!
Living in a new neighbourhood has many perks like new homes, new parks and new friends.
On the flip side it lacks things like wildlife.
Hopefully this new bird feeder will help attract some animal friends (of the non-racoon/skunk variety).

I'm dreaming of painting it a bright colour (like turquoise) and adding some cute shingles.
I smell a project!

Saturday night we headed over to my friend Shelley's place to celebrate her birthday.
It's funny how much can change in a couple years. Two years ago, birthdays were all about going out, getting drunk and having dance parties.
Now it's all about babies, wine and games.

I think its safe to say, Quinn is smitten with Shelley's daugher Lyla.

Speaking of games, we played Werewolves of Miller's Hollow. SO FUN.
I highly suggest this for your next big gathering. The more people the better.

Sunday started off much the same as Saturday. I reheated the extra scramble I made the day before and it was just as delicious. While getting breakfast ready I looked over to where I had parked Quinn and of course she was no longer there.
This is where I found here:

She managed to crawl under the chairs and had trapped herself under our breakfast table. Little monkey.

After breakfast we got dressed and headed over to my aunt Heather's condo to see the renovations she had done. Everything looked awesome. She picked some really nice finishes. After some tea and chocolate cake, we headed out for a lovely dog walk.

Later Sunday afternoon I headed over to my parent's place for the usual Sunday dinner. I was cranky and ended up freaking on my sister. Oops. Hopefully she forgives me. :)

Overall our weekend was amazing even though I decided to be a brat and end it on a bad note. :)

To end this post, I would like to share the many looks Quinn rocked this weekend:

1) Princess Quinn

2) Smurf Quinn

3) Pope Quinn
4) Lasagna-face Quinn
5) Happy messy kid Quinn

Have a happy Monday!
