Halifax!

I've been meaning to post this for about a month, so now that I have a bunch of free time with the sick leave, I figure I better play catch up.

Ahhh Halifax.
One of our favorite places to visit.
Not only is it a beautiful place, but there are awesome people living there too.
Two particularly awesome Nova Scotia residents got married last month, hence our trip to Halifax this year.

Before I get into all the wonderfulness that was our East Coast trip, I think I'll get the logistical aspects of air travel with a tiny human out of the way.

Our experience went a little something like this:

Our flight was delayed 3 hours. Damn you Murphy's Law. Being stuck in your own city's airport is probably a lot like purgatory. Pretty sucky.

We bought Quinn a Sesame Street sticker book and a Dora the Explorer colouring kit for the plane. It saved our butts, I can't even tell you how many times.  We did however end up covered head to toe in stickers.

Simon insisted on bringing our backpacking pack for Quinn and am I ever glad we did. She ended up napping in it while we were at the airport and it was so convenient strapping her in there when we didn't want her running around the airport.

We fed Quinn things she should not have eaten (eg. sugar covered donuts) but they kept her quiet and entertained for all of ten minutes. Worth it.

Quinn also spent a good chunk of time looking out the windows of the airport. Watching planes land was pretty cool for her, but not as cool as watching a little moth fly around outside.

Speaking of windows, Quinn loved nothing more than looking out the little plane window. Our flight was only an hour and half so she spent a good chunk of time looking out at the clouds and searching for birds.

Simon also got creative with his toddler distraction techniques.

Overall Quinn was awesome both in the airport and on the plane; thank you toddler gods.

Now on to our awesome trip...

We hung out by the waterfront:

We trolled around downtown:

And we of course, went to Mike and Meg's wedding!

Simon was Mike's best man and Quinn was the flower girl.

Quinn did so well walking down the aisle, I was so proud!

My Aunt Heather visited Halifax the same time as us and offered to watch Quinn while we enjoyed ourselves at the wedding. After the dinner, Heather and Quinn headed up to the hotel room we reserved while Simon and I got some mingling and dancing in. Thanks again Heather!!!

Not only did we get to hang out with friends, we also got in some family time as well.
I, of course, took no photos. But I stand by my reasoning that we were having too much fun to take pictures.

My Uncle Ralph and his wife Susan live about twenty minutes outside Halifax and graciously hosted us for a few days. We stayed in their RV on their property, and let me tell you, it was pretty swanky.

All in all, we had a wonderful time and are looking forward to our next visit to Haliwood.

Hallelujah for playdates!

And the award for best text message of the week goes to my lovely friend, Shelley:

Heck, yes I want to have a playdate on a week night and make dinner with my awesome friend while our babies get into trouble at our feet!
In a life full of routine, this playdate was a welcome change.
We met at the grocery store after I picked Q up from daycare. Our babies sat in the same cart. The cuteness was off the charts.

We then tried to go to a used clothing/toy sale in my neighbourhood but got lost about twenty times and gave up. It’s pretty sad when you don’t know any of the street names in your neighbourhood but your own.
When we got home, we prepped dinner while our littles played, climbed, ate popsicles and stared deeply into each other’s eyes.

The babies ate leftover spaghetti while the mamas ate chicken rice paper wraps. They managed to get spaghetti sauce in places where spaghetti sauce should never be. Shelley and I managed to stay relatively clean during our meal.
Dirty baby hands and faces were wiped down and they were set free to play while the mamas had some dessert while attempting to watch an episode of Girls. After pausing it for the hundredth time we gave up on Girls and headed outside for a little play.
We then came back inside for bath time. Spaghetti stained clothes were stripped off and two adorable bare bummed babes were dropped into the tub.
This was the only non-blurry picture taken of those two rascals:

After the bath it was playtime in Quinn’s room. They danced on the bed, got kisses from the dogs and hugged and kissed each other goodbye.

What a great night.

Thank you Shelley for being such an awesome friend and now my playdate buddy.

Easter Festivities

I love Easter; always have.
It was my second favorite holiday to Christmas as a child.

A few weekends ago, my friends and I had an Easter brunch.
Mimosas, decadent breakfast foods, adorable babies, beautiful friends and a sunny sky.
 What could be better?

YUM!

Silly Easter decorations

Baby BFFs

Reading time!

This past weekend was a busy one indeed!

On Good Friday, Quinn and I went to my Aunt and Uncle's house.
Aunt Bunny and Wing Rider's parties are always a great time.

On Saturday, my sister and I took off to Watertown, N.Y. for a day of Target shopping.
Man, I love that store.

On Sunday, Simon and I hosted Easter dinner.
Since we were fifteen people, we decided on a more casual format and laid out the food buffet-style. And I may have over done it with two hams but I love me some ham and pea soup. Quinn had a great time hunting down all her Easter eggs and scarfed down the gummy bunnies hidden inside.

Monday was our rest day. Oh and my give ten vials of blood day.
You know you're in for a treat when the nurse ask you if you are good at having bloodtests.
Fun times.

Meanwhile, Quinn was busy being adorable and troublesome.

I did not stage this, I swear.
She put on her own hat and purses but apparently forgot about pants.
What a lady!

This child gives me multiple heart attacks a day.
Anyone know where I can find a pint-sized bubble to keep her in?

Just a kiddo in a bucket.

How Quinn tells me naptime is over.

C'est l'Halloween!

Being at work yesterday without a functioning cell phone was torture.
I am one of those people that feels like they've lost a limb if they don't have their phone 24/7.
Its kind of pathetic.

Anyways, to start things off I would like to share with you a link that my BFF Kristina e-mailed to our group of girlfriends:
It's a classic.

This song brings back vivid memories of being a kid in elementary school.
Love it.

And now I present you, the Halloween (and other miscellaneous things) photo dump:

First up, on Monday, my stud-muffin hubby was given the Queen Diamond Jubilee Medal for his amazing work. SO PROUD!

Tuesday, Simon and I kept Quinn home from daycare and we had a family day! We carved pumpkins and relaxed. It was delightful.

This is Quinn's 'ewww what the heck is this stuff' face.

Putting the kid to work.

Quinn discovered little pumpkins fit in bigger ones.

Ta da!

Somebody loves pumpkins <3

Somebody loves to eat pumpkins

Sneaking another bite after we took the pumpkin guts away. Cheeky monkey.

Later that night I went out for dinner and a show with some girlfriends.

I have the most beautiful group of friends.
Seriously they are all smokin' hot.

Pumpkin cheesecake

White chocolate cheesecake

What show did we go see?
Heck yes!

It was AH-MAZING!

And that brings us to October 31, 2012
HALLOWEEN!

Our front porch

Jack'O Lanterns

Uh-oh

Spooky...

Obama stopped by to hold our child and to scare the bejesus out of neighbourhood children.

A little duck and a little zebra ready for CANDY!

While Simon and Quinn were trick-or-treating, Mama was having a treat of her own.

Quinn checking out her haul

Somebody loves candy :)

I remember being a kid on Halloween and coming home to see what kind of goodies I got. My sister and I would sort everything and store our candies in these. We thought we were SO cool.

Holidays are a million times more fun now that Quinn is here.
I know I sound like a broken record, but
I LOVE THIS KID.

I'm going to end this post with a bit of a cliff-hanger.
Something pretty darn special happened last night.
I will try to contain my excitement until tomorrow when I can share the video.
Stay tuned...
