Thump Day

You know, Wednesday 'Hump Day' but with a T for Thursday?
Not cool, I know.

I have nothing to really talk about so instead I made a list:

1) I'm watching Downton Abbey. I'm on Season One Episode 5. I still don't know if I like it.

2) So I might not have mentioned this yet, but I got a headboard from Simon for Christmas. A DIY one! Well we finally bought the fabric for it. We plan on adding silver nailhead trim along the edge too. I'm awfully excited for the final product!

3) I bought a new dress for my friend's upcoming wedding reception. Finding a nice winter-appropriate dress is flipping hard! I plan on pairing it with black tights and shoes.

4) I'm reading The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman. After reading Enclave, Outpost, Divergent and Insurgest this one is hard to get into but I'm sticking to it.

5) Last but not least, this made me laugh a little too much

Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HANUKKAH, HAPPY FESTIVUS
Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!
Now that the craziness of everything has calmed down I finally have a chance to check in to the blog world! Hurrah!

Christmas has come and gone at our house. We've already taken our tree down and packed away all the decorations. I was sick of everything being stuck with pine needles (including my feet). Scrooge, I know.

Our Christmas was AWESOME, but that's not what I've come to talk about today. I will at some point, but today I'd rather share some other AWESOME things with you.

I call this game the "This is AWESOME you should":

1) EAT IT

Went to Milestones for dinner on Sunday and had the Red Curry Chicken Bowl.
I have craved it every day since.
Delicious.

2) DRINK IT

Birthday Cake tea.
You heard right, Birthday Cake.
It has sprinkles.
SPRINKLES.

3) READ IT

If you liked Hunger Games and liked The Walking Dead, this book is for you.
Apocalypse, zombies, female protagonist, good read.

4) WATCH IT

You like that segue?
This series is so addictive. I love waiting to start watching shows until there are already a few seasons out. MARATHON!

5) WEAR IT

I need to own this bathing suit.
Why do I live in a place where half the year includes snow?

Oh right.
So we can wear adorable wintery clothes and look like this:

Right...

Turrah for now

What to read...

Simon, Quinn and I are at home today.
We decided to take a family mental health day.

On today's agenda: relaxing, helping Quinn practice standing and walking and carving the million pumpkins we bought. Check in tomorrow for the results!

Now on to the subject of this post.

Having just finished up The Night Circus, I am desperate for a good read.
So I turned to the internet and here's what I found:

You simply enter the last book or author you just read and it gives you suggestions for what to read next. This is good for people who want to read something similar to what they just finished. Not so good if you want something completely different.
Give it a try if you are suffering for a major book hangover.

When I entered in The Night Circus it suggested a whole list of books. Among them was this one which I thought looked promising:

"Quentin Coldwater is brillant but miserable. He's a senior in high school, and a certifiable genius, but he's still secretly obsessed with a series of fantasy novels he read as a kid, about the adventures of five children in a magical land called Fillory. Compared to that, anything in his real life just seems gray and colorless.

Everything changes when Quentin finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the practice of modern sorcery. He also discovers all the other things people learn in college: friendship, love, sex, booze, and boredom. But something is still missing. Magic doesn't bring Quentin the happiness and adventure he though it would.

Then, after graduation, he and his friends make a stunning discovery: Fillory is real."

Interesting... sounds kind of like a modern day, real-life Harry Potter?

Since I've made reference to Good Reads several times on the blog, this seems like an apt time to give it kudos. If you've never been over to Good Reads and you like to read good books, stop everything you are doing and go there NOW. Its free to sign up, you check off what genre of books you like and it suggests books of those genres for you to read. Straightforward and awesome. Good Reads also suggested I read The Magicians.
Well, I guess the universe has spoken.
Downloaded to Kobo.
Let's hope Quinn has a nice, long morning nap.

Book Obsession

G'day!
I am having issues uploading some sidebar titles so please excuse the mess!
In other news, I have to share my latest book obsession:

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

It is phenomenal.
If you like books with a little magic and mystery, look no further! If you are into audio books, the one narrated by Jim Dale = awesome. I listened to part of it on a long drive home from Niagara Falls and it did not disappoint.

Here is the synopsis via Good Reads:

"The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des RĂªves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart."

If you are looking for a new book to read that isn't too heavy, I wholeheartedly recommend picking up a copy of The Night Circus.
